Maruti Cervo 2012 - Maruti to launch Cervo this Diwali

Maruti (in fact, media) has been tantalizing us for quite a while with the prospect of launching the ultra small car Cervo. Now, credible media reports have it that the Cervo is all set to be launched this Diwali, replacing the iconic Maruti 800. According to a report by Economic Times, Cervo will be launched this Diwali, priced between 2-2.5 lakh. Although a senior official from Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that “the work on the car is going on and the company is planning to launch it before Diwali,” there is no guarantee that the new car is going to be in the same shape that you see in these pictures. However, we can assure you that there is something brewing in the Maruti plant and the cat will be out of the ba
g during the upcoming festive season

The Cervo looks like a smaller Chevrolet Beat with cues from Honda Jazz's design. The phenomenal fuel efficiency is one of the USPs of this car. Powered by Suzuki's 660cc engine — as against Nano's 623cc — the Cervo could be priced a little higher than Nano.

According to a report by Economic Times, Cervo will be launched this Diwali, priced between 2-2.5 lakh.

Hyundai i30 — 2012 onwards

Hyundai i30 — 2012 onwards

What: Hyundai i30

Where: Seville, Spain
Date: February 2012
Price: £14,495-20,295 (Rs 10.8-15.2 lakh)
Key rivals: Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra, Volkswagen Golf, Kia Cee'd

We like: New Hyundai design language, efficient diesel engine, standard equipment
We don't like: Final attention to detail lets it down

Hyundai i30 — 2012 onwards

The 2012 Hyundai i30 builds on the success of its predecessor, further improving refinement, offering more kit as standard and delivering a pleasingly engaging drive for those who are interested.

That's not to say it's the last word in dynamic ability - but it is a stylish hatchback designed in Europe and featuring Hyundai's new corporate 'face'. That's a hexagonal front grille, distinctive 'blade' front lights and muscular crease down the flanks.

The new i30 retains what has always been one of the firm's key selling points, too: value. Add into the mix competitive levels of refinement, impressive efficiency and a decent driving experience, and the i30 becomes an appealing proposition.

Hyundai i30 — 2012 onwards
We sampled Hyundai's 128hp 1.6-litre CRDi Blue Drive combined with the standard fit six-speed manual gearbox, and on the whole we were impressed. For a vehicle that returns claimed emissions of 100g/km CO2, performance is on a par with the equivalent 1.6-litre Focus and 1.7-litre Astra diesels.

Despite its eco-focused nature the i30 Blue Drive will crack 62mph from rest in 10.9 seconds, compared to 10.9 and 10.7 seconds for the 115hp Focus and 125hp Astra respectively.

Battle For Supremacy Continues: X3 vs Q5

Battle For Supremacy Continues: X3 vs Q5

It's BMW versus Audi yet again. The 2.0-litre diesel avatars of X3 and Q5 are all set for a battle. Let's see whose day it is today

As you can see in the pictures around, what we have for a comparison are the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5. Both are mid-size SUVs or rather soft-roaders we would say, both are German, both are powered by 2.0-litre diesel engines and both are pretty new in the Indian market. The Audi Q5 has been around for over two years, but its 2.0-litre diesel variant came earlier this year. The BMW is comparatively a more recent entrant, having come to these shores about three months ago. Since BMW and Audi have been arch-rivals for years, the battle for supremacy still continues even in this case.

If you think that this one is another fierce battle of two of the best-in-class warriors, you might be surprised by the outcome. How? Let us see.

The curious case of 'smart for-us'

The smart for-us is a mobility concept. It translates the practical loading concept of a pickup to the reality of 21st century urban traffic. It has ample room for two people and also has space behind for two smart ebikes, which can charge their batteries on the cargo area during the journey. It is small, agile and does not need any petrol thanks to its electric drive. Thanks to the state-of-the-art electric drive with a 55 kW magneto-electric motor the zero-emission smart for-us is agile and lively to drive.

With its exterior dimensions (length/width/height: 3547/1506/1701 mm) it could almost go unnoticed on the loading area of a typical pickup, and it is also anything but ordinary under the body. Thanks to the state-of-the-art electric drive with a55 kW magneto-electric motor the zero-emission smart for-us is agile and lively to drive. It will celebrate its world premiere at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit (14 - 22 January 2012).

DC Avanti: India's first Super car

The well known Indian automotive design house, DC Design has unveiled its supercar called the Avanti. According to reports, the car has been named after the Studbaker Avanti that appeared in Tintin comics. The idea behind the Avanti, which means 'forward' in Italian, is to make affordable supercars and the car is expected to be priced at Rs 30 lakh, it was reported.

The car was unveiled by Amitabh Bachchan and will initially come powered by a 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine from Ford, and later a turbo V6 Honda engine. The 4-cylinder turbo petrol will make 265 hp, while the V6 engine will make 400 hp.

The Avanti is expected to do a sub-seven second zero to hundred timing. These engines are mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission system. According to the reports, the engines are being tuned in the UK and will be shipped to India in crates where they will be installed the cars. Much like the engines, most of the other components that go into the cars will also be imported into the country. However, the body and interiors are being ...
